Shari Sakahara, Gone, Not Forgotten

She was a very talented graphic designer and photographer who was killed recently at a bus stop in Los Angeles. According to her resume, she had just gotten a job at Yahoo! this year.

Dusk in the foothills. My favorite time of day. Got the figure/ground separation with light thing going. The sky is yellow blue, since the sunset is still kicking it around. Not a thalo blue, either. It's strictly that Colorado sunset blue.

This is a detail of a painting that I thought I had finished. Now, it seems that is not the case, as I am not happy with the results. No removal is necessary, since fortunately, with painting, a mistake or inadequacy is repaired with more paint. Where to put the paint becomes the issue.

This is a view of the south side of Green Mountain, in Lakewood, west of Denver. In the foreground is a "potato reefer" once used by the San Luis Central Railroad. The SLC never ever laid tracks anywhere near Green Mountain, so this is a view that no one ever saw or will see apart from this painting.

This is the entrance to a canyon very near Golden, Colorado. This view looks to the west more than another painting, the vantage point of which looked more south, toward Clear Creek Canyon. That painting is lower down in the archives of this blog, here, near the bottom of the new page.

I'm going to shift gears on this canvas and change styles. The layout will be similar to "Hey Kids". I think I'll keep the style in a Will Eisner type, if I may flatter myself. I do know that I could not achieve that great Eisner level of competence, but I can hit the flavor, if nothing else. We'll see. I'll keep posting the progress.
